Übersicht A-Plus 1
Construction of the new A-Plus Pier
  • Seven new positions for wide-body aircraft, four of which are suited for the A380
  • Three additional ground handling positions (in the apron)
  • Total space of over 185.400m² = 25 soccer fields
  • Approx. length of 800 m

The new A-Plus pier will extend Terminal 1 by about 800 m toward the west and comprise total space of over 185.400m².

The construction project encompasses the new Pier A-Plus and the connecting structure between Pier A-Plus and the existing Pier A. This structure also includes an enlargement of the existing baggage claim hall A.

Pier A-Plus will have seven positions for wide-body aircraft: four for the A380 and three for the A340-600. To ensure maximum flexibility, as an alternative, two smaller type A321 aircraft can also dock at each of the A380 positions. Consequently, up to a maximum of 11 aircraft can be simultaneously accessed directly from the terminal building. There will also be another three positions for remote parking.
Each A380 position is connected to Pier A-Plus by three passenger bridges (one of which is for the aircraft's upper deck). Each A340-600 position has two passenger bridges.

A special challenge while building Pier A-Plus is that of creating this new terminal section without interrupting operations in the adjoining terminal and apron areas. Much of the work can only be done at night to avoid impairing the passenger processes.
